China United Network Communications Group Co.,Ltd ("China Unicom") was officially established on 6 January 2009 on the basis of the merger of former China Netcom and former China Unicom. On January 6, the SASAC approved the merger between China Unicom and China Netcom in its "Reply to Issues Regarding the Merger between China Netcom and China Unicom" (State Asset Reform No.1). After the merger, the new company will use the name of "China United Network Communications Group Co., Ltd." ("China Unicom" for short).
