China Unicom is heavily involved in international cooperation at all levels. At the level of international telecom organizations, the Company has participated in a number of activities organized by GSM Association (GSMA), International Telecommunications Union (ITU), Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT), Pacific Telecom Conference (PTC), Information Technology Week (ITW), etc. At the level of regional economic organization, the Company has taken an active part in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Project, the telecom project of Shanghai Economic Cooperation Organization (SECO) and projects under Sino-Russia Working Group on Telecommunications.
At the level of international standardization, the Company actively took part in the activities of international standardization bodies, e.g., The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), Open Mobile Alliance (OMA), ITU, GSMA, Telecommunication Management Forum (TMF), and WiMAX Forum. Over the past years, the Company has been closely tracking the standardization dynamics with regard to international communications networks, terminals, services, supports and customer service. A raft of draft international standards submitted by the Company has been adopted by international bodies as recommendations or specifications, which served to bring part of China Unicom's business operating requirements and technical research outcomes to international standardization bodies and to increase China Unicom's visibility in international arena on a continuous basis.
